Sihanoukville is a port city in the south of Cambodia, facing the Gulf of Thailand. Its beaches are gaining importance among tourist, since it is surrounded by palms and white sand, tropical islands, being the most important beaches Occheteal and Serendipity. Great locations for snorkeling, diving and sport fishing.
Siem Reap town is located in northern Cambodia and is the main access point for the Angkor Archaeological Park. Siem Reap, means "Siam Defeated" and commemorates a Khmer victory over the neighboring kingdom of Thailand. Expect to receive constant offers for motodop and tuk-tuk rides, along with everything else drivers may offer to you. Some places to visit here are the Landmine Museum, which is a jungle shack set up by a local deminer, Aki Ra, to educate locals and tourists about the dangers of land mines. Lots of piles of defused mines and UXO lie around the site, and the guides are teenagers who were orphaned, or injured by mines. A very worthwhile trip, and shows you a slice of "real" Cambodia. Donations are very welcome, and everything will be used for mine clearance.
Angkor Wat is one of the most important archaeological treasures of the world, and perhaps the biggest religious complex ever built. Believe it or not, it is the biggest complex dedicated to Hindu deities, outside the Indian territory.
Located in the province of Siem Riep, it was the political and religious center of the ancient Jemer Empire, and its real limits go beyond Cambodian borders, into Thailand and Laos. Inside this huge complex, the main temple is Angkor Thom, being the biggest and best conserved temple of all the ones that are part of the complex.
